Making a Difference

Whew! After writing for 31 days last month, my fingers and brain needed a little break from needing to churn out a post every day. I’m still feeling foggy and not quite sure if any of my words are worthy to be read at this moment but there are some things I’m excited to share with you!

Last week I started my Christmas shopping when my good friend Lindsy launched her new website business called Johari Creations. It is an online shop that highlights women from all over the world who are creating beautiful jewelry, totes, scarves, etc to sell and provide for their families. After I purchased a large majority of my gifts on her Instasale, I had an overwhelming sense of excitement and peace in the money that I spent. I knew that the money I spent was actually going towards these women in Uganda, Ghana, and Ecuador so that they could provide food and clothes for their babies. There’s not many times I make purchases and feel that my money will directly impact the lives of people around the world. That night, my husband and I made the decision that a large majority of our Christmas purchases will be fair trade items.

Since then I have been scouring the internet for other stores that sell fair trade. There are quite a few of my blogging friends who highlight business that are fair trade or homemade businesses that give a portion of their proceeds to help those around the world and in their neighborhood.

Tomorrow you will hear from one of those ladies who I have the privilege to call my friend. She was my roommate at the Influence Conference and we are both adopting from the same country. Lauren has a heart that breaks for the injustice of this world and she is an example of someone who is taking the gifts God has given her and uses them to bring hope and light to dark places through the hope of Jesus. I’m really excited to read her words tomorrow and I hope you are too!

She may also be hosting a giveaway for one of her shop items! So make sure to stop by tomorrow to read her story and enter the giveaway!

And I want to challenge you to think about your purchases this Christmas season…can some of them go towards making a difference in the lives of those that are in need this holiday?
